A Partial Win for Hood Canal State Forest!
Thanks to Skokomish Tribal Council and community comments, DNR has delayed the SEPA threshold determination, meaning that the Bayou Stomp Timber Sale is paused until further notice!
“Our hands are raised in gratitude to each and every one of you that spoke up for this legacy forest!”

We will keep you posted about updates and future opportunities to protect this legacy forest!
Mason County Climate Justice is a multiracial, multigenerational, community-based nonprofit based in Mason County, WA, and the sovereign Skokomish and Squaxin Island Nations. They collaborate to build community food forests, teach workshops, provide a rural perspective on policy, defend legacy forests so that they become old growth, develop a Just Transition, and organize our community to take charge of our shared future.
A Just Transition dreams of a world of freedom.
A Just Transition means a world where food is medicine, and we as a county are self-sufficient again in its production. It means a world where our building materials are grown and harvested sustainably close to home. It means a world with safe, healthy, and abundant employment in local workplaces. It means a world where no group of people suffers while another group unfairly benefits. It means a world where we move beyond a two-party political system and look at our neighbors as people again, not as liberals or conservatives.
A Just Transition means tribal sovereignty and support for traditional culture, language, and practices. It means healthy soil, clean air and water, now and for all future generations.
A Just Transition means the transformation of Mason County back into a place of abundant lands and waters full of food for everyone.
Bayou Stomp Timber Sale! Note: For now, Bayou Stomp is canceled indefinitely. However, it is not yet permanently protected—DNR could bring the issue back! Watch Mason County Climate Justice.
