We’re excited for our seed exchange location in Tolt Middle School which has a large indoor space this year!!! The Seed Exchange is a volunteer-led project. We are grateful that Sno-Valley Tilth will have us as one of its projects! This means your contributions are fully tax deductible as a charitable contribution to a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Come Prepared to the Seed Exchange

Come, gather seeds & learn about gardening in the PNW – whether you can contribute seeds or not. We’ll have plenty of seeds for this year’s garden.

If you bring seeds to share, please make sure they are no older than 3 years, or you have tested their ability to germinate. You may bring leftover seed packets and/or your own home-grown seed. More info on contributing seed on our SEED SAVING page.

There is no charge to participate. However, the Seed Exchange is supported entirely by your donations. Please bring some CASH to contribute if/what your budget can afford. A suggested donation of $5-10 per family helps us buy seed and pay costs such as venue fees for the event.

To collect seeds at the exchange, bring small envelopes and markers for labeling seeds. There are instructions for two different handmade seed envelopes on our SEED SAVING page. We will have a limited supply of envelopes available by donation but are likely to run out.

Pop in for a minute or stay and chat for an hour!

We will have seeds, seed catalogs, gardening advice, and more! Unfortunately, we will not have workshops or food this year, but don’t let that stop you from striking up a conversation with a Seed Steward or sharing your own gardening experience with fellow gardeners.

We need volunteers! We will need folks to act as Seed Stewards at the seed tables, set up helpers, clean up helpers, and more experienced gardeners to answer questions from attendees as they are able.

Volunteer roles:

Set up: help turn the barn into a lively seed exchange. Tables must be set and dressed, catalogs and seeds put on display, vendors and exhibitors brought in and set up. (One hour shift starting at 9am)

Clean up/tear down: ensures we are welcome guests in this space another year. Please consider giving your time at the end of the day to return this space to a condition better than when we found it. (One hour shift starting at 12pm)

Seed Stewards: These are our knowledge people. Give instruction on how to use envelopes, write information or take pictures of seed packets when useful. Experienced gardeners answer questions about seeds and plants and help guests select the right quantity and type of seed. (One hour shifts)

Volunteer benefits:

  • Early, 9:30 am, access to the seed exchange with your fellow volunteers. Half hour of seed picking before public opening!
  • Make personal connections with longtime northwest gardeners.
  • Help pass the love of seed saving and gardening on to others.
  • Make it possible for farmers and small businesses to connect with local gardeners and get the inside scoop on those farms and businesses.
