The Center for Rural Livelihoods (CRL) is accepting applications for Back from the Land, a unique interdisciplinary fellowship for people committed to social justice, ecological regeneration, and building resilient communities.
This immersive program combines three core elements:
- Land stewardship (“bread labor”) through hands-on work in restoration forestry, agroforestry, and natural building on CRL’s 40-acre campus.
- Political education, including group study and discussion of Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor’s forthcoming book, End Times Fascism.
- Community organizing, with participants choosing one of two tracks:
- Track A: The Municipality (September 12 – October 9) — Explore place-based organizing by studying and engaging with the community of Cottage Grove, Oregon, culminating in a public community gathering.
- Track B: The University (September 12 – 26) — Prepare for the coming academic year through strategic exploration of campus organizing and student movements.
The fellowship is designed to be physically, intellectually, and socially engaging while fostering meaningful relationships with the land, one another, and the communities participants hope to serve.
